Drove to Bournemouth for the Elite Travel Conference. Stayed in the Premier Inn – surprisingly high quality hotel – far higher than I had come to expect from a Premier Inn. I heard during the weekend that this hotel was originally planned and renovated for another hotel company with grand ambitions, but this had fallen through. Had dinner with half the group on the Bournemouth Pier – didn’t have the prawns which is good as they were somewhat “minimal”. Went to nightclub afterwards and realised how old I was – didn’t stay long.
Visited the Luxury Travel Show at Earls Court and was disappointed at the low attendance, but gave me the space to move around. Nicely set out, and some exciting new hotels opening around the world, in spite of all the alleged doom and gloom being published every day. The Far East looks like it is investing heavily in their tourism as are a number of large international hotel chains. I was there for four hours and the busiest place seemed to be the eating area and the theatre where some excellent shows were being performed – a colourful way to promote a destination – loved the Indian dancers.
